Thanks all. If you need any info, pictures or a general chat please feel free to post it here or email me.

Good on you mate.
It was great to finally see what the Rate Badges of yester year looked like. Heard about them but pictures are always better than words, mostly. Well done and thank you. Peter Mills. PS, I thought ID cards were to be surrendered on discharge?

ID Cards
Hi mate. Thanks for the feed back. I am always looking to improve the site and am happy to help with info on a particular category or rate badge. If you see any mistakes or have other info please let me know. As for the ID card, because I did rocky time I was able to hold on to mine. It has since expired so is invalid now and I slowly cut down on my rocky time due to my current employment so I have never been asked to surrender it. Good point though. I know a few blokes who "lost" theirs just prior to discharge.

Well Done Allen
I remember your recent email advising of the new site, I am glad you set it up Allen. i will be spending a lot of time here. Regards Cliff

HEAD SCRATCHER
G'day Allen. Our local RSL has been presented with a uniform that has chief's badges PLUS a right arm rate for Marine Technician Hull. This is most puzzling to a 50-60s type like me. Help? Cheers.

RE: Head Scratcher
Hi mate, thanks for visiting my site and for t he question. M arine Technical Hull came from the old S hipwright branch as you may have known it. In 1 974 under SAILSTRUC the old Marine Engineering a nd Shipwright branches were changed to Marine T echnical Propulsion (MTP) and Marine Technical H ull (MTH). T he MT branch also temporarily absorbed the old E M(P) branch as well and they were called Marine T echnical Power Electrics (MTL). This branch w as disbanded in the late 1970's and became E TP. Interestingly under the new system ETP's a re now once again part of the Marine Technician b ranch. I n 1992 the branch underwent another change and M TP, MTH & ETP combined into Marine Technician. T he electrical branches also underwent their own c hanges. EM(P) became MTL then ETP. EM(C) b ecame ETC, EM(WE) became ETS & EM(WR) became E TW. Now ETC, ETS & ETW are combined into the E lectronic Technician branch. M echanicians were phased out in the late 1 970's. Artificers and Artisans also d isappeared over time. H ope this helps mate.

Permission
Hi mate, go for it and thank you for having the courtesy to ask. If you want to send me the link to your site I am also happy to put it up on mine.

bloodly good didnt know there where so many rates have to come down one time and have a look around,i was a abrp 1970-1976

Hi Trevor, thanks for the feedback. I have built up the collection at the museum over time and it is now pretty good. My own collection is up to over 1100, the museum is up to about 200, due mainly to space. Please pop in to the museum at some time and have a look around. It's worth the trip if you can get there. For eveyone else, I will be taking more photo's of my collection in the next few weeks so watch this space.

Love ya work!
I joined the RAN in 1986 as a Writer. Left after 7 years service to undertake a career as a nurse. Left mainly because too many navy nurses and not enough writers so couldn't transfer. But looking at your site has brought back many many memories. Again great job and although not a lot to do with ther services anymore, you've kept the history going. Roger.

Thanks mate
Roger, thanks for your feedback mate. I update the photo's of my collection at regular intervals so please check back. Am happy to help with any info that I can.

History
Just found your web. Great stuff, bit as ex greenie from 1957-1969, your date of 1974 regarding Electical Branch changed to Weapons Electrical Engineering Branch is 10 years out. It was 1964 not 1974. Yours Jim Roles

Thanks mate. You are right, under RATSTRUC in 1964 there was a change to the WEE Branch. There was also another change in 1974 under SAILSTRUC too. The WEE branch is one that unfortunately there is not much documented history on which makes things very difficult. there is lots of anecdotal evidence but not much in writing. Feed back like yours is always appreciated and welcome. I will make some ammendments when I get the chance.

History
This is a followup to my previous email regarding WEE branch. If you go to www.pussersgreenies.org/ then to "Branch History" it will tell you all about the illustrious "Green Empire" Yours Jim Roles

Cheers mate. I have been on the site before and it is good. Once again though they don't have written sources for some of their info which does make it a bit difficult to confirm the dates. Most of their stuff is spot on and is taken from RATSTRUC and SAILSTRUC douments etc. An example of the problems of "memories" is the fire fighting branch. I spoke to 3 people seperately, all of whom are ex pusses fire fighters from the same vintage and all 3 had different memories of the course and when the branch was made redudndant. I later found some written sources and it turns out all 3 blokes were wrong! It can be frustrating! The greenies website is an excellent one though and is worth a look. They have done a great job.

Hi all, I have updated the pictures of my collection as of 10/07/2009. A bog job but I managed to get it done!

Contacts
Hi Allen, I am an ex Victualler,if you could help me it would be much appreciated. I am setting up a large display frame and have so far collected almost all the rates, hooks, Australia flashes etc that I had when I served. Unforetunately, some have eluded me. If you could point me in the right direction that would be great. Cheers, John.

RE: Contacts
Hi mate, drop me an email, quagmire01@netspace.net.au, or post here again and let me know what you need & I'll point you in the right direction.
